Activity Insights

Activity Insights now logs more types of activities and provides detailed information in the new Activity Properties panel.

In the example below, you can see detailed information about the number and types of objects removed from a selected Purged activity.

DWG History has now been merged into Activity Insights. So when a file on a supported cloud storage provider such as Autodesk Docs, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, and Dropbox is saved, a new file version appears as a Version activity on the Activity Insights palette. Click Compare within the Version activity to view the differences between the current and previous version.

You can also view a drawing’s activities without opening the file. From the Start tab, click Recent, and select your drawing. Then, click the vertical ellipsis and select View Activity Insights to see the drawing’s activities in the docked palette.

Import Markup PDF from Autodesk Docs

Create markups on a PDF in Autodesk Docs, then sync the PDF so the markups can be viewed by collaborators in the AutoCAD Trace workspace. The PDF markup file is continually connected to the AutoCAD drawing, meaning as you add changes to the markup file, collaborators will see those changes in AutoCAD.

Smart Blocks: Search and Convert

The ability to quickly convert repetitive geometry into blocks minimizes redundancy in the design process and provides a wider range of options for organizing drawings.

New Commands

BCONVERT – Opens the Convert dialog box and converts selected geometry and identical instances into blocks.

-BCONVERT – At the Command prompt, converts selected entities and identical instances into blocks.

New System Variables

BLOCKEXCLUDECOLOR – Sets the color highlighting for identified instances that should not be converted into blocks.

BLOCKINCLUDECOLOR – Sets the color highlighting for identified instances that can be converted into blocks.

BLOCKTARGETCOLOR – Sets the color highlighting for the specified instance from which the new block definition is created.

Smart Blocks: Object Detection Tech Preview

Object Detection is a technology preview, which means that the detection capability and functionality will be further enhanced and improved over time.

It’s important to note that Object Detection is optimized for plan-view drawings. The types of objects that AutoCAD can detect are continuously expanding. Currently, Object Detection is best at recognizing the following objects:

  • Single-swing doors
  • Double-swing doors
  • Toilets
  • Bathtubs
  • Urinals
  • Generic lighting symbols

Note: Object Detection relies on machine learning algorithms, so the results may not always be completely accurate or comprehensive.

To optimize detection accuracy as we continue to improve the machine learning algorithm, it’s recommended to set your drawing to real-world units before you start the detection.

While in review mode, the following commands are temporarily blocked:

  • BEDIT
  • COMPARE
  • COUNT
  • COUNTLIST
  • PLOT
  • PUBLISH
  • REFEDIT
  • TRACE
  • XCOMPARE

New Commands

Hatch Improvements

The HATCH command now provides a convenient option to draw hatches without the need for pre-existing boundary geometry.

Now, you can choose between creating a filled shape or hatching along a specified path using polyline, circle, or rectangle draw options.

Updated Commands

  • HATCH – Fills an enclosed area or selected objects with a hatch pattern, solid fill, or gradient fill.

New System Variables

  • HPDRAWMODE – Controls the drawing mode used when defining new boundaries to hatch or fill.
  • HPPATHALIGNMENT – Specifies the alignment of new drawn paths to be hatched or filled.
  • HPPATHWIDTH – Specifies the width of new drawn paths to be hatched or filled.

Esri Maps

There are five new Esri maps available to assign geographic location information to drawings.

  • Esri OpenStreetMap
  • Esri Imagery
  • Esri Streets
  • Esri Light Gray
  • Esri Dark Gray

Trace Updates

Trace Toolbar

The Trace toolbar now more clearly shows whether you’re editing the trace (TRACEEDIT) or editing the drawing (TRACEVIEW).

Additionally, the Settings drop-down menu now can be pinned so it remains displayed after the cursor hovers away. You can also drag the drop-down to a new location, as you would a palette.

Edit External References while in Edit Drawing mode

While a Trace is open, in edit drawing mode, REFEDIT is now enabled, meaning you can now make changes to xrefs.

Markup Import and Markup Assist 

Markup Import and Markup Assist continue to improve, making it easier to bring drawing revisions from a markup file into a drawing.

The following enhancements were made:

  • Markup Assist can now be applied to external references.
  • When inserting a revcloud with Markup Assist, you can now choose to insert as a rectangular or polygonal revcloud. Inserting as a rectangular revcloud uses the highlighted border as the defined size and shape of the revcloud. Inserting as a polygonal revcloud uses the approximate shape of the detected markup as the defined size and shape.
  • You can now add multiple text markups to a single Markup Assist text insertion. This means if you have multiple text strings within multiple markups, you can save time by adding them all to the same mtext or mleader object. When the Markup Assist text dialog box is open, click Select Markup Text to Add, then select the text markup objects to add.
  • When viewing imported markup in Edit Drawing mode, Annotation Styles are available in the Settings drop-down, making it easier to assign the current text and mleader styles when using Markup Assist.

Additional enhancements

2D Graphics:

  • Font display improvements.
  • The Graphics Performance dialog box includes a new “Diagnosis” tab specifically designed to diagnose common graphics card issues.

3D Graphics: The Wireframe visual style has been added to the cross platform 3D graphics system. See the Fast shaded mode option in the Graphics Performance dialog box for more information.

Autodesk Assistant: Using generative AI technology, Autodesk Assistant now provides summarized responses and smart search results to your questions. This enhancement is currently available in English AutoCAD only.

File Open Performance: Improvements have been made to reduce the amount of time it takes to open 2D drawing files.

New and Changed File Formats: The ACTM and DXE file formats have been replaced by the new ACTMX and DXEX file formats.

  • ACTM files must be migrated to the ACTMX file format before they can be played back. New action macros recorded are stored in the ACTMX file format and are not compatible with AutoCAD 2024 and earlier releases.
  • DXE files can continue to be used to extract data from a drawing, but changes can’t be saved back these files. Changes can only be saved to the new DXEX file format which is not compatible with AutoCAD 2024 and earlier releases.
